The biggest expense for most American households is taxes. It takes 4 months of working to break even from taxes. With taxes being such a large expense, let’s break down all taxes in Kansas. 

First, you have Federal taxes which vary from 10% of income to a 37% income tax rate. Then in Kansas, you have a tax rate of 3.10% to 5.70% tax rate at the state level. You have to pay a sales tax rate of 9.4% in Olathe and on average is 8.68% for local and state tax. If you own a property then the tax is 1.33% of the value of the home. The tax rate with the income tax and sales tax combined would be around 22.3% at the lowest level.

Kansas is not a very tax-friendly state and compared to other places like Florida, Texas and Tennessee have much low tax rates. Rember to file your taxes by April 15 or get an extension.
