Five Easy steps to be an effective LTL shipper.

Here are five easy steps for making a smooth LTL shipment.

1. Package the goods as best as possible- To prevent damages, strap and wrap goods to a pallet. Doing this secures the items and prevents a good portion of shipping-related damage.

2. Gets the specs and weight as accurately as possible- By getting the correct dimensions and weight, you can avoid charges, reweights, and reclassifications. This also helps the carriers to be able to transport your goods safely. Make sure you figure out which NMFC and weight class are needed to transport the goods.

3. Choose the correct carrier for the location based on 5 main factors. Price is often a key factor but not the only factor. Some factors include transit time, the number of terminals it passes through, carrier damage rate, and customer needs.

4. Create a pickup and BOL for the items- create a pickup that works with your customer schedule and label the item. Print 2 copies of the BOL.

5. Inform the customer of the timeframe and provide reassurance in case they have any questions. Supporting the customer with an accurate timeframe can help resolve customer service-related issues.
